Kathmandu, Nepal – MG is developing new hybrid cars featuring improved technology. These vehicles will include electric turbos and special motors that significantly reduce noise.

The new Hybrid+ system is being created at MG’s engineering center in Frankfurt, Germany. It may debut in the upcoming MG S9 plug-in hybrid car. MG is also planning major upgrades for its electric cars. A new battery type, known as a semi-solid-state battery, will be used in a higher version of the MG 4 electric hatchback in Europe later this year. This will be the first mass-produced battery of its kind.

During an event in Frankfurt, MG’s senior engineer Qiu Jie mentioned that the new electric turbo can spin at very high speeds of up to 70,000 rpm. The electric turbo improves both performance and efficiency. It also creates smoother power delivery between electric and petrol.

The new Hybrid+ system incorporates a special digital damping technology to enhance comfort. The electric motor is not only used for propulsion but also minimizes engine vibrations. Sensors in the car detect vibrations and calculate the necessary force to cancel them. The motor then counteracts these vibrations. As a result, the car becomes quieter and more comfortable. It also boosts efficiency since less energy is lost to vibrations and heat.

MG is adding a larger battery (1.83kWh) to support the new system and turbo. With these changes, the new hybrid cars are expected to be smoother, quieter, and faster than older models.

MG’s new semi-solid-state battery, called SolidCore, is projected to be available later this year. This battery consists of about 95% solid material and only 5% liquid, making it more solid than regular batteries. This design allows for greater energy storage, which translates into a longer driving range. It also enables faster charging and improved performance in various temperatures.

Another significant advantage is its safety. In standard lithium-ion batteries, damage can lead to overheating and fires, known as thermal runaway. Such fires can be difficult to extinguish. However, MG claims that its new battery is much safer. Even during testing, when it is crushed or drilled, it does not catch fire or create sparks. This battery features a blend of solid and gel-like materials along with lithium and manganese, which enhances safety and stability.

MG is focused on making its future cars more powerful, smoother, quieter, safer, and more efficient through these new technologies.
