Kathmandu, Nepal – 15 April 2026 – MAW Vriddhi, the authorized distributor of Foton Motors in Nepal, has handed over 11 units of customized Foton TM1 Electric Waste Collection Vehicles to Lalitpur Metropolitan City, marking a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards sustainable urban infrastructure. This marks the first time that electric vehicles have been used for urban waste management in Nepal. This paves the way for commercial EVs to contribute to sectors other than roads and transportation.

This handover is not just a fleet handover, but also a strong example of Foton’s ability to develop original solutions, keeping in mind the real needs of the city. The TM1 vehicles provided to Lalitpur Metropolitan City are not ordinary vehicles easily found in the market. Each of these vehicles is specifically designed for the purpose of waste collection in the city. It also reflects the growing expertise of MAW Growth in developing Foton’s commercial EV solutions according to institutional needs across Nepal.

The impact of the Foton TM1 is already being seen in daily operations. Lalitpur Metropolitan City has been able to reduce its waste collection team from three to a more efficient team of two, a direct result of the vehicle’s user-friendly and user-friendly design. It has also created meaningful opportunities for women in the waste management sector, encouraging gender-inclusive employment.

Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan said, “Our city runs on a simple rule, pollution is strictly prohibited here. For this reason, we were looking for an electric vehicle that does not use petrol or diesel for waste collection. Is it possible to get such an EV? This was our biggest concern. And, Photon has provided a strong solution to that concern. To be honest, we are very happy.”

Anil Baral, CEO of MAW Vriddhi Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. said, “We were impressed when we first heard about the concept of EV-based waste management. And, today, we are very happy to see it in practice. We are proud to support Lalitpur Metropolitan City, which has established itself as the cleanest city in Nepal, and we express our heartfelt gratitude to them for trusting us. This is just the beginning for Photon. We are always committed to contributing to building a clean and pollution-free Nepal through advanced electric vehicles and expanding EV charging infrastructure across the country.”

MAW Vriddhi has a network of over 14 sales and service centers and over 171 CCS2 DC fast charging stations across the country. With this, Foton’s EV ecosystem is fully capable of operating at a large scale in municipalities and localities. This initiative, which started in Lalitpur, sets a strong example that electric commercial EVs are not just a dream of the future, but a practical solution that can be implemented today.

Municipalities, organizations, and fleet operators interested in learning more about Photon’s commercial EV solutions can contact MAW Vriddhi at 9802375421 and 9802340671 or visit the nearest Photon showroom.
