Bharatnatyam Classical Dance Evening at DAV School

A special Bharatnatyam Classical Dance Evening was observed at DAV School, Jawalakhel, Lalitpur on
Friday, July 21.
Bharatnatyam Classical Dance Evening was put on a stage by Sushila Arts Academy in collaboration
with Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center, Kathmandu and DAV School together.
The programme was graced by the benign presence of Nepali based bollywood actress Manisha
Koirala, Dr. Asawari Bapat, Director, Swami Vikekanand Cultural Center, Embassy of India, DAV
Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia and Ms. Yulia Koirala, Founder, Sushila Arts Academy.

Similarly, the Principals from some reputed schools of the Kathmandu also attended the event. The
Principal who were present on the day were Mr. Yadav Kumar Lamichhane, Machhapuchhre IB
School, Mr. Mukunda Sharma, Little Angles School, A.P. Binod Kumar Yadav, Kendriya Vidyalaya and
Subash Neupane Apex Life School.
The cultural evening saw a participation of around eight hundred spectators from various
backgrounds. Ms. Yulia Koirala, director of Sushila Arts Academy welcomed all the attendees and
highlighted the importance of classical education in relation with the holistic development of the
children. She also talked about the contribution of Sushila Arts Academy in the country and was
overwhelmed with the craze of School children in Bharatnatyam at Kathmandu.
The key attractions of the classical dance evening were the Bharatnatyam Dance from the guest artists
of India. Saundraya Panapil presented 'Gajavandana Kuruna Sadhana' prayers and the stage was open
to the audience. She also presented a 'Tilana Dhanashree' to wrap up the show. Similarly, Sashi
Ramesh presented Bharatnatyam dance on 'The Story of Meera Bai' (Paga Ghunghroo Bandh Meera).
Bharatnatyam students of DAV School for the academic session 2023/24 made altogether three
performances with their astounding dance skills.
The junior school team presented 'Pushpanjali' with
their mentor, Anu Lama. Similarly, middle school students staged 'Alarippu' with the Bharatnatyam
instructor, Binita Mandal and Senior School students demonstrated 'Mallari', a form of Bharatnatyam.
Similarly, Dr. Asawari Bapat, Director of Swami Vivekanand Cultural Center was delighted to know
Sushila Arts Academy and DAV School engaging children to learn Bharatnatyam dance. She applauded
the Cultural Evening and noted that the programme has helped to exchange art and culture between
the two nations. At the same time, she also presented some of the programme organised by Swami
Vivekanand Cultural Center in Nepal.

Addressing the august gathering, actress Manisha Koirala remembered the Bharatnatyam and
Manipure dance that she learnt from Sushila Koirala in her childhood. She applauded the presentation
of children and extended all the best wishes to Sushila Arts Academy, Swami Vivekanand Cultural
Center and DAV School in nurturing the children that was close to her heart and soul.
The winners of Bharatnatyam Dance Competitions were honoured with the award and merit
Certificate by the Chief Guest Manisha Koirala and Guest of Honour Dr. Bapat in the presence of
Chairperson Shree Anil Kedia and Vice-principal Mr. Ramchandra Khanal.
