Nepal Bankers’ Association (NBA), in collaboration with Visa, successfully organized a national workshop titled “Strengthening Cybersecurity Resilience in Nepal” on January 27, 2026, in Kathmandu. The event brought together high level representatives from government, regulatory bodies, law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, and international development partners to advance Nepal’s cybersecurity readiness amid an evolving digital financial landscape.

The inaugural session was attended by distinguished guests from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the Cyber Security Directorate of the Nepal Army, Nepal Rastra Bank, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) among others—reflecting the country’s unified commitment to safeguarding the digital economy.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bam Bahadur Mishra, Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, underscored the importance of strengthening Nepal’s digital financial ecosystem and enhancing cyber risk management across institutions.

The workshop featured two key technical presentations:
• “Emerging Trends in Cyber Enabled Frauds and Scams: Nepalese Context” delivered by the Cyber Bureau, Nepal Police, highlighting the current threat landscape and law enforcement challenges.
• “Shaping a Secure Digital Future” presented by Visa, outlining global best practices and collaborative approaches to cyber defense.

A high level panel discussion titled “Building a Coordinated National Cybersecurity Ecosystem: Roles, Responsibilities and Way Forward” brought together experts including representatives from the banking sector, regulatory authorities, and cybersecurity specialists. Panelists emphasized the need for stronger inter agency coordination, capacity building, and improved public private partnerships to bolster national cyber resilience.
During the closing session, Mr. Vaibhav Taranekar, Vice President & COO – Visa India & South Asia, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging all stakeholders for their contributions and insights. He also announced a major new capacity building initiative:

through specialized cybersecurity training across all seven provinces of Nepal.
The event served as a platform for knowledge sharing, dialogue, and collaboration as Nepal continues to strengthen its cybersecurity posture in the face of growing digital threats.
